Aircraft in the movie "Memphis Belle", a hell of a good movie

this info is from Steve (Servicide.blogspot.com) who always amazes me with the stuff he knows or finds out about things I've posted.

The original B-17 had two different colors on the bathing suits - blue on the port side and red on the starboard side.
The image was taken from George Petty's April 1941 pinup in Esquire magazine.

The pilot, Robert Morgan had gotten Petty's phone number from the magazine and asked him for permission to reproduce the artwork. Petty was gracious and even thrilled to be a part of it. Corporal Tony Starcer, who was an artist in the Squadron, painted the images on the fuselage. Morgan had told Starcer, "I don't care what color you put on her bathing suit, as long as you put a bathing suit on her." When restored the first time, the pinups were repainted a bit too hefty (see the blue suit image).

The current restoration is returning them to their wartime figures (red image),

I saw the Memphis Belle on Mud Island in Memphis in 1987, just shortly after it went on display there.

prayer to the car gods, and one of the best car race sequences to get an audience excited, from "The Fast and The Furious"

Dear heavenly spitirt, thank you for providing us with the direct port nitrous injection, four core intercoolers, ball bearing turbos, and titanium valve springs. Amen

Vanishing Point was remade, Viggo starred in it, and it's as good as the original, available through Netflix

Of course, they didn't have two cars with the same working lights... sheesh.

The Great Gatsby movie has some of the most extravagant 1920's cars throughout the movie

The reliance on CGI for all the vehicle scenes is obvious in these screen captures from the trailer, but not as noticeable when watching it all in motion

Dennis points out soon after I posted this, that the yellow car prominently featured as Gatsby's is a 1929 Duesenburg model J. Good choice of cars, too bad it's out of the movie's timeline

As the trailer states very early, the setting is New Jersey, 1922... but the movie makers didn't stick to pre 1922 cars. Since they included so many cool vehicles from the 20's, I'm going to compliment the marvelous looking vehicles they included without telling them what a gross blunder all us car types are going to notice when we see newer than 1922 models.

Dennis O’Brien from O’Brien Truckers created the Low n Slow car plaque
“The plaque is made of pure aluminum ingot material from a chemically engraved pattern. Each plaque is made using the time-honored sand-casting process, just like plaques made back in the 1950s,” said Dennis. “First we start by pressing sand against the pattern. Next, we pour molten aluminum into the sand model. Once it solidifies, the mold is broken apart, the casting is cut off and the piece is finished off in ‘Ramone’ purple.”
